We have been baked, bounced around on even more shocking cycle paths and as a result we broke two spokes on the back wheel - not good news so early in our tour. After a very long day on Wednesday Donna cooked whilst Tony took the rotor off and the cassette just to change two spokes. The day after we broke another - bike shop needed soon. We have however enjoyed some wonderfully smooth and flat cycle paths along the river, feasted on French pattisserie and Donna has been enjoying good cheap wine. Tony's beer has been chilled by Belgium caravanners and an old French lady offered to cook our dinner instead of us sitting on the grass wih our little stoves. So life ain't that bad. Haven't worked out the exact mileage but we have broken 500 - not bad when your bike is heavier than the average chest freezer.

Justin Talboys-Cotton You will be amazed how friendly strangers are on the road. Can't believe where you are already, it seems like 5 minutes to me
Peter Burnett Not sur of your route but we can recommend Saarborg. Theres a cycle way along the river Saar to the Mosel to pickup another as far as the Rhine. At Saarboug there is a campsite on the towns edge with Aldi almost next door. The town is beautiful. Good luck with the spokes.
Jim Told you about tandem wheels Ant! x 4 ONLY! It's bot just the condition of the roads which contribute to failure.......the forces acting on the rear wheel are enormous........weight/braking/forces from road and torque.....get it re-built as it'll plague your trip throughout! Good luck/bon chance! Don't go to Saarboug.......go to Saarbourg instead!
