What an amazing experience!!!
I spent four days in the research centre, observing the action in the bay and monitoring what dolphins came in for feeding times. We'd weigh out the frozen fish for each Dolphin and defrost it. We'd then take all their buckets down into the water and the Dolphins would know which one was theirs. There was only selected Dolphins within the research project, but most times they'd bring friends and family, their babies who'd be swimming around us all and entertaining everyone. We weren't allowed to touch the Dolphins but they were allowed to touch is if they wanted. I had a pregnant dolphin rubbing her belly against my leg during one feed. They really are fascinating animals.
When not working, I spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach and swimming in the clear blue sea. One afternoon I had a very surreal experience, whilst standing in the water at about waist height, three sharks came in and started doing figure of 8's around a few of us!!! The residents are used to tiger sharks coming in, they are harmless and very distinctive with heir stripes, these did not have stripes!! After slowly edging out of the water and making sure everyone was ok, we were told they were possibly youth great whites! Nice!!!!
