Road Trip Weekend
In KL I was staying with a local girl called Lim, who I met after she kindly looked after me when I was poorly in Chiang Mai. It was great to see the city from a locals eyes.
At the weekend we went to Malaka, a city on the coast south of KL. It had become quite touristy with the gimmicky stalls but it was still kept in its old town style which was nice to see, and there was lots of different types of Malaysian foods in the street market. We tried some, deep fried potato on a skew, some samosa/dimsum thing with pork Inside, rice balls, their famous desert... Which wasn't not nice but I just couldn't get my head around all the different flavours together, ice cream with some green jelly worms, sweet soy sauce and kidney beans!!!! WTF!!! They also had every part of the duck and chicken imaginable chopped and pre cooked ready to eat.... Yuk!!
The next day we went to Genting Highlands on the bus, with a very crazy driver... Turns out 3 days after we were there, there was a massive accident, one of the drivers lost control and went over the edge falling 50m's and killing 37 of the 50odd passengers, including himself! Finding this out was too close for comfort!!
Genting was a big theme park and casino on the peak of a mountain just outside the city, but you take a cable car up and down, and the views over the forest would've been amazon if the fog wasn't so heavy :(
On the way back we went to Batu Caves... Incredible.
After getting up all the steps and dodging the hungry wild monkeys the cave is huge and very impressive... That is all!! I don't think the photos have done it any justice!
Then we drove around and saw KL all lit up, including the Patronas towers and of course back to china town where I spent more money :-s but got some funky trainers :D for when I eventually go for a run... Somewhen!!
