I had a flying stop over in Cambodia with one full day to explore Angkor Watt. Again the history of this country is crazy and the fact it all was so recent is just mind blowing. I was talking to some people who had gone to the killing fields in Phnom Penh and they were saying that because there had been heavy rain the night before, bones and rags and weapons had risen to the surface and scattered around the fields as they walked around. I'm glad I gave that a miss this time round.
Angkor Watts in the other hand was gorgeous, it's a collection of temples that were built with such detail on every single stone and restored with new effects as minimal as possible. The main temple took 70 years to complete and was so original. I preferred these to the fancy gold painted thrilly temples elsewhere.
We also went to the temple where Tomb Raider was set. Again so beautiful and original. The temple had trees growing up through it and roots smothering the stones.
There was also a faces temple, which had so many faces built into the stones and statues leading all the way to the entrance. Although most of the heads are missing as country's stole them!
We also climbed up in top I'd a temple where the steps were so steep it felt like climbing up and down a really long ladder :(
To finish we found a spot on the night sun temple to watch the sunset, no sunset instead a big dirty black cloud... We got soaked!!
