Pantanal Adventure Day Two . . .
I survived the night under the mosquito net that was kindly loaned to me by my Danish roomies :)
We were up at 5am to see the sunrise, it was spectacular to look at, but we were getting tormented by Mosquitos and it was taking so long, so we escaped back in side for a break half way through!! It was funny to see though, this lodge turned into Noah's Arch, it seemed every animal from the area came for breakfast... About 8 horses, 20 cattle, 3 balls, lots of chicken and roosters and the resident cat!!
After breakfast we went for a drive back down the track to see what we could spot and then walked back up 6km to the river to catch the boat to the lodge, we stopped in a 'village' shop and treated ourselves to ice creams then sat and relaxed in the garden watching the animals and reading!!
All of a sudden, a tropical storm appeared, thunder and lightening, and I have never seen so much rain fall in one go!! And so hard all the cattle ran away!
We went for a boat ride in the afternoon and saw some of the birds at work, kingfishes, herrings, hawks and vultures. We also saw a dead cayman, it was Hugh, sadly some of the locals catch them and cut off their tails for meat and throw them back in the river to die!!
Unfortunately we couldn't go fishing as apparently there's not much pirañha to catch as the water is so muddy they are struggling to breath and dying too!
As you can see we spent the rest of the evening wrapped up to the eyeballs to try to deter the Mosquitos!! It didn't work so showered and in bed by 9!! :)
That muddy water I was telling you about, the one with piranhas and caymans and god knows what else.... We start walking through it at 7am :-(
Fingers crossed I make it alive for my bus back to civilisation!!
Ooo Rosie Colson you'd be proud of me I finished my first book... Only 5 weeks :-) I think that's a record. Twas very good :-)
