Pantanal Adventure Day One . . .

The planning and organisation of this tour is shocking I've just been put in one place then another and not been told what is going on or what to expect next.

There was only three of us starting today, so instead of them putting on a minibus they stuck us on a 6 hour public bus! But it wasn't the worst I've been on ;)

We then randomly stopped at the side of the road where there was a police station and a house and kicked off the bus, apparently our guide was there. We were put in the back of a pick up truck with all our stuff and started driving on a dirt track.

Suddenly we came to an opening with marsh lands and waters either side and that's where the magic began :-)

We saw loads of crocodiles and caymans, lots of different species of bird including the green parrots, McCaws and vultures eating dead crocodile. We played chicken with a massive cow in the road and was in the middle of a stampede of playful horses :-) oooo and we also spotted and got a great picture of a Toucan up in a tree :-D very beautiful bird!!

We got to the end of the dirt road and then we had to take a motorised canoe across the river to the lodge. The lodge is very basic but there's hot water, however there are so many insects its unbearable! Luckily my room is pretty minimal, on the insect side!!

After dinner we went back out on the canoe to look for wildlife. We spotted a small grey owl and lots of cayman, and also a frog skimming across the water surface!

I'm currently in bed, so hot, tucked under a moskito net, fingers crossed I make it through the night!!
