The Coorong Wilderness Lodge is situated amongst the lush lagoons, towering sand dunes and coastal bush wilderness of South Australia's renowned Coorong National Park. Our site overlooked the Coorong waterways which were home to Pelicans, Herons and many other species of birds. The sunsets were incredible. We wondered why such a beautiful place and we were the only one's there. Until 5 pm hit and we could hear a slight hum that got louder and louder. Until 500 Million mozzies the size of small birds hit the camp site. Cameron the "I never get bitten by mozzies man" resorted to wearing a head net Just so he could sit near the fire. Anyhow within an hour they disappeared and we could one again enjoy the stunning sky full of stars and our camp fire. We explored the National Park and saw kangaroo's, pelicans, emu's, wallabies and hawks. Oh and our first "big" Lobster.
We have noticed quite a few differences between Victoria and SA. Firstly, they don't have shopping bags. When we go shopping it is always a quick run back to the car to get them. I don't think we have remembered once to take bags with us. The clouds!! They are absolutely amazing in SA. I don't know what it is but, they seem to be unusual shapes and sizes. Cameron thinks I am bonkers, but I have the pictures to prove it!! They don't have Aldi, but they do have Neds, which is a really cool home furnishings shop, really different. Pity I don't have a house to put anything in. Cameron is still confused as to how to order a beer in a pub. He always seems to get the wrong size. Schooner, Pint, who knows. I love the way the South Aussies tackle road safety with their straight to the point, no nonsense road signs. Gotta love it. (see photos) The weather has been generally awesome, we have had about 4 days rain in total!! Pretty good for winter.
