June 3:
Today was probably the busiest day yet, we went right up to Cape Leveque. From Broome it took us two hours to get there and we were also driving on the worst sand road ever. We finally arrived at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. As we arrived 20 minutes early we went up to the lookout and saw the prettiest view ever. Our tour guide Naomi from Warren NSW took us to an old schoolroom, where some of the Browns went to school. The Browns ran the pearl farm since 1910. Mr Brown was also the first Australian to ever master culturing a pearl. We went to a lab where Marine Biologists are researching a mystery marine virus. They were also making algae because that is what they feed the oyster larvae. Naomi also took out an oyster like she does every single tour and said that she hasn’t pulled out a pearl for a while. Our luck was magnificent - we found a pearl that was 9.5 millimetres! The worlds’ biggest natural round pearl is a huge 22 millimetres and was found in Cygnet Bay. Inside this Oyster there were four Keti - naturally occurring pearls. Naomi said this was a very rare find. Mummy wanted to buy a $23,000 necklace but I wouldn’t let her. After the pearl farm we went to Kooljaman, which is a beach campsite on aboriginal land. It was really really pretty blue water and interesting red cliffs. Because of the currents we couldn’t swim on the west beach but the eastern side was fine and I won the bodysurfing competition as usual. We drove home on the terrible road and got home at 6pm. What a day- brilliant breakfast, lunch and now time for bed.
