Toms Intrepid Travels
Bangkok, is everything you'd expect it to be!
Smelly, busy, crazy, cheap and full of atmospshere! Unfortunately, we didn't get to see an awful lot, cos we only had one free day, and that happened to be the King's birthday, so quite a lot was shut! So we decided to have a wander into the town centre and just experience it first hand. Khao San Rd is where it all kicks off, and is definately the place to go if you want to buy some knocked off designer goods....its everywhere!
I could have spent a fortune...if only my bag was a bottomless pit. In my dreams.
It is also a lot more westernized than all the other places we've been, and i saw my first MACDONALDS in over a month.....but don't worry, i didn't get suckered inside. Its a 24 hour city, and i think i saw a good 22 hours of it! What are shops and market stalls in the day turn into bars....and market stalls at night! However, this is when the ladyboys come out in force. You have to watch out for them you know.
We also took a day trip to the River Kwai, which if i'm honest.....was ever so slightly boring. It was a bloody long way to go just to look at a bridge (however significant) and some graves....especially since grandpa died the night before. It kind of made the day a little more apt though.
But enough sadness...there is a tropical island in the distance calling my name......
