So we have just emerged from our 3 day jungle trek, which was actually really good.
On our first day we went bamboo rafting which was a very dangerous way of travelling the muddy rivers of the Chiang Mai jungle. As soon as we got on the raft Tom was appointed as the second oars man (having no prior experience). Then we were thrust down a rocky river on 4 pieces of bamboo, while the mad Thai guys kept shouting 'snake' and 'crocodile' and then splashing us, he also spend the whole journey trying to tip us up so tom would fall in. and we are proud to say we were the only boat (if you can call it that) that didnt lose a passenger. We then set off on our 3 hour trek through the wilderness of the jungle to our camp for the night, a little inbred village. We spent the night listening to Geoff , an aussie guy telling jokes and watching our tour guide drink and smoke opium and weed. (felt very safe at this point).
On our next day we Treked for another 3 or 4 hours having dinner at a little water fall that we shared with a very big and poisenous looking spider. We then set up camp in another Waterfall, after which the group swam in the heavens opened and we were nearly washed away.
On our last day we only walked for about an hour before going Elephant riding, which was the most frightened i have ever been in my life. It had just been raining and the elephants were literally sliding up and down big hills, we were sat in a man made seat that we soon realised was not as secure as everone elses. Glad i have done it once but never again.
The worst part of our trip was saying goodbye to Steffan a little 2 year old alsatian who had been with us from day one as our jungle protection. As we suspected he never got fed the group made a bowl of left overs for him after every meal, he soon become very attached to us and started running after the van as we were leaving, probably wondering what he had done wrong. (Mum can i bring him home????)
Now we have 2 days left in Chiang Mai before we are off to the Tiger temple, hopefully we can upload our photos soon, if we can find a computer cafe that bloody works properly.
Goodbye for now,
Lots of love,
Nikki and Tom xXx
