Well, unfortunately we had to leave Zipolite after 2 days of fun, and we had to move on with our trip as we were desperatly behind on time. We caught the bus to Mexico City, from Zipolite, a nice 15 hour journey, and arrived absolutely knackered...
We booked into hostal amigos, which had been recomended by many a person we met, and after a brief nap, hit the city for a look around. It is absolutely massive and after checking out the Zocalo (main square) and surronding areas we headed back to the hostal.
We immediately realised why all the backpackers recommended this place, as the hostal bar was lively and the bartender even more so, chucking tequila down nearly everybodys' necks..... we immediately met some Londoners (from Balham coincidently) and so started a discussion about all the pubs in Balham, especially the wetherspoons.
Anyway after light-ish night we spent the next day relaxing in the Hostal watching some films and occasionally venturing out for some street food etc. That night we had to say goodbye to Alma and Vanessa, the swedish duo who had been travelling with us for the past 2 weeks, so we stayed at the hostal bar again without venturing out as those 2 had a very early flight back to Sweden.
The next day we were kindly given a couple of tickets to the upcoming America (MEX) (the local team) footy game, which was awesome. That night we stayed at the hostal for a while, met some more swedish people we had already met a couple of weeks before, and all went out Salsa dancing with the locals, which was awesome fun, one of the best nights i've had for a while....
Anyways the next day we went to the footy with some English lads we met, all got kitted up in some nice fake shirts and made our way to the 120,000 capacity Azteca Stadium, which was incredible in itself, although only about 45,000 people turned upto the game. The atmosphere was electric, so much so we had to be escorted out of the 'hooligan' section as the police feared for our safety, and to be honest in there the people were going nuts, especially when America scored the first and only goal of the match late on.
After that, we managed to find a flight for a mere $60 to Guatemala city and headed out after a few days of chilling out in the hostal and wondering the city. We arrived in Guatemala city on the wednesday....
