Dean and Claire's t'internet travel journal
Hello people,
Yesterday we took a tour to the elephant village, where we met children from the Karen tribe, saw baby elephants, bathed with the big elephants in the river, and then went elephant trekking into the sunset.
On our arrival at the village, children as young as 2 and 3 appeared from the huts and ran to greet us. They took our hands and escorted us down to the riverbank. so sweet. Dean and I had brought balloons along for the children, and spent time blowing them up (The balloons!) and giving them out to the children.
We then proceeded with the elephant bathing action. Basically, you put a life jacket on, then mount this huge elephant, aided by a little Thai-elephant-pro. You then ride the elephant bare-back into the river and give him a bit of a scrub with a nail brush and some fairy liquid. After a bit of a scrub, the elephant ducks his head into the water to wash off the suds, while you cling onto him for dear life, for fear of being swept off down stream. Dean loved it, I wasn't as keen. Especially when I saw some elephant pooh float by, and realised what we were bathing in. nice.
After dinner we went on an elephant trek, which was really cool, and Dean even got to ride up front (brave and stupid boy!)
Today we visited the war museum, war memorial and took a train across the famous river Kwai bridge.
Anyway, more fairy tales another time,
Claire x
