Dean and Claire's t'internet travel journal
Greetings from Ayathaya, which used to be the capital of Thailand and thus has many wats and old ruins.
We took in the sites last night on a night tour, where we were taken around some of the famous landmarks. We visited some of the wats, which were all lit up, sparkley and pretty! We weren't allowed to go inside the temples, but on a couple of occasions we managed to bribe the secuirty guards with 10 baht (about 15p), to let us in. Scanadlous!
On our last day in Kanchanaburi we vivited the famous Erawan waterfalls, which is seven tiers of really beautiful waterfalls (and once again, a hell of a treck... I really must learn to associate waterfalls visits with major bouts of climbing!) We went swimming in the pools and used the rocks as water slides! In the afternnon we went baboo rafting, which was a lot more gentle than I anticiapted (or at least, until it started to lash it down with rain...)
Well, we have now spent almost six weeks in Thailand, and we have slowly got a grasp of the language. I now know how to say 'hello', 'goodbye', 'thankyou', 'thankyou very much', 'please', 'water', 'how much?', "That's expesive', 'good luck', 'sweet dreams', 'no thankyou', 'yes' and 'no'. I can also count to five in Thai. That's pretty good by English standards! Certainly better than the Malay that I absorbed anyways. For the first five days I was thanking people by saying 'Thankyou, you're welcome'. got a few strange looks...
lagon ka!
oh btw, Dean had a bad reaction to seafood the other day. He had to take anti inflammatory tablets cos his lips had blown up as big as mine!
