So our road trip has now begun, 28 days to drive to Cairns, camping in our tent.... The first day we drove to Surfers Paradise, Collongatta (both posh) Kerra beach (where they hold the ASP surf event) and eventually arrived in Pottsville a little town just north of Byron Bay to rest for the night. The next day we headed to Byron Bay, where we stopped for 2 nights. Byron is a very cool hippie town, but when you get out of your car to take in the sea air you get a nose full of weed too, the surf was pretty crummy and the weather wasnt great so we decided to head north. We made it as far as Caloundra (Dickies beach) when Chops realised she had stayed here last time she was in Oz and also surfed there. The surf the next day however was still messy, so we decided to go to Australia Zoo (Steve Irwins Zoo). This was a great day out, feeding kangaroos (feeling a bit guilty for eating them the week before), seeing an Otter and Tourtoise feed as well as tons of other animals. Best of all however was the croc show, run by the Irwins themselves, we were educated about the dos and donts with crocs and watched as they used a dead pig to show us how the croc kills and eats its pray.
The surf was still pants the next day so we got back on the road, but before we left got some great advise from the really nice campers. We drove from Caloundra, up to Maroochydore (also posh but nice all the same), we then passed 10/11 beautiful beaches before we stopped at Sunshine Beach for lunch. After that it was back on the road to Noosa (which Chops realised she had been to before when she got there). We have now been in Noosa for 3 days, its an awesome little town with a lovely though very busy longboarding wave. We have surfed, went mountaining biking and rented a moped so Chops could learn to ride one, our campsite is also right next to a nice river with a great view of sunset.... lifes very tough!! Tomorrow we heading north onto Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach.
Much love Tim and Chops
