G'Day sports!
Arrived safe and sound in Oz....looking forward to plenty of cold beer, shrimps on the barbie and trying our hand at the didgereedoo!! We are staying in the backpacker/red light district of Sydney called Kings Cross which is making us a little homesick!
Plus we are actually suffering massive culture shock after six months in Asia....and we are having trouble getting used to being able to drink the water and having toilet paper again!
Walked round the Opera House and Harbour...all very impressive...and took a ferry trip out to Manly Beach, where Tim was efficiently manly in securing us a spot on the crazily busy beach!
Had planned on a spot of swimming but decided against it after firstly feeling how cold the water was and also after a public announcement warning about the BlueBottle jellyfish being swept inland whose sting is "not fatal but really painful for about half an hour." Erm....give a dip a miss then!
We also met up with some other travellers who we met months ago on the Trans-Sib trip and some from the boat trip in Laos which was great fun to catch up!! We all headed to PJ O'Briens bar in central Sydney where we were officially sworn in as honourary Aussies with too many Yeigermeister A-bombs....a foul shot of something dropped into a schooner of Tooheys New beer and downed. Ugh Ugh!!
After a super quick flight we are now in Brisbane up north and tomorrow we are picking up a camper van for the next two weeks and planning on driving down the coast.
Our itinerary so far includes surf lessons in Byron Bay, Wet 'n' Wild theme park and a visit to a famous giant yellow banana! Oz is just full of bone-fide historical sights.....
