We were woken up at 7.30 by our cab driver. Asking if we wanted to book the flight with him. A quick 'No' I went back to bed. Only to be woken about an hour later by singing, loud drums and megaphone voices. Stevie was feeling a little under the weather, so I got up, skipped the shower before ventured out as it was freezing!!!
It was a nice day. Our hostel overlooked the main square. In the main square I discovered what all the noise was about. There was a Independence day ceremony. The towns mayor and other officials where there along with a marching band.... It was quite entertaining.
Venturing around the square I decided to look for activities we can do here, book the Nazca tour and try and get a Peru patch for my bag. The Nazca lines are spread across 500km sq of desert plains, In the network there are over 800 lines and 300 Animals. The most famous are the Monkey, Spider, Astronaught and Hummingbird. No one really knows how they got there or who put them there. The general belief is that they were created around 900BC - 600AD.
So off I set....
I must have walked around the square 10 times and entered every tourist shop. Still no luck. So I went back to the hostel to ask for directions again. Ok so the tour offices are two blocks out of the square. Two blocks out were dozens of them. How could I miss these.
I went to the first who had trouble getting through to the airport so asked if I could come back in 30 mins. As they were the cheapest. I agreed. Right, time to find the Peru badge. After an extensive search I found a Nazca Peru badge. It's not perfect but it will do. 30 mins later. I am back at the office, I get a free bookmark for coming back. Tour booked for this afternoon. Right time to head back and tell Stevie.
Time to kill we look around the market together, get some cake and head to the bus station to book our coach to Cuzco. On our return we go in a souvenir shop and hey presto! I find my Peru Patch. Boom!!
Before we get back to the tour office to start our flight we somehow manage to book two more tours, one to see ancient ruins and sand board, the other to San Fransico to sight Penguins, Congas and Seals....I even manage to haggle the guide down. Result!
Finally we get to the original tour office to start our excursion. There is a delay!! Seeing I'm not impressed the lady gives me two bottles of water to apologise. I say it's not necessary and leave to wait another hour.
Finally one hour later we are on our way, ready and raring. About an hour wait at the Airport we finally board our plane with a French couple. I'm pretty sure the girl was called Fanny. (Brilliant)
....And we are off. We see the first Nazca line. It's impressive. We see the Spider, Astronaught, Hummingbird, Monkey and many more however the ore of the lines starts to fade when the pilot starts doing all kinds of malarky manoeuvres so each side of the plane can see, within moments our stomachs are in our months. Trying to remain still while this crazy french couple jump all over the plane to get the best views. We survive without a spill of puke. After we land I need 5 minutes before we get in the car.
Back at the hostel it's 5pm and we head straight to bed with motion sickness.
Around 8pm we struggle out of bed to get some Pizza and Pasta before eventually heading back to bed for the night this time as we have an early start tomorrow.....
