Andres had the day off school and Laura went sick, so the 4 of us could head to SantaFé de Antioquia via the Rio Cauca, en route we went to here we went on two cable cars across the valley. The cable car was free to travel and was installed by the government to help the local farmers distribute their crops to the town.
We past through a couple of small towns to get to Rio Cauca bridge but when we got to the bridge we discovered that it was closed to cars. So Andres and Laura drove the car around on the main high way and we proceeded in a rickshaw to SantaFe. Although this wasn't as deadly as the Asian Rickshaws.
SantaFa was like all the typical towns throughout Columbian, but on a grander scale. All the towns centre around a church overlooking a square that house a small market in the centre around a garden, monument or fountain. The edge of the square was surrounded by shops and restaurants. The rest of the town was laid out in a grid system.
We visited a few churches and gardens before Andres and Laura met back up with us. All hungry we headed for pizza. Eyes bigger than our bellies we got two huge pizzas, only managing to eat one and half. I think my butt will feel the effect of the copious amounts of jalopeanoes tomorrow.
We then visited another monument and church. Andres told us the local artists were inspired by Michelangelo and adopted aspects of his work in their own. You could see in a monument we saw that the artist gave the statue the same hand as that in 'The creation of Adam' painting in the sistine chapel.
The sun was setting so we headed back home. We felt bad that it was late and the meal we was going to cook would take too long to made and would be too heavy. So yet again we cancelled our traditional English meal. I hope they wasn't too hungry.
Luckily we still had left over pizza for them. When we got home, Stevie made some chocolate frosties cakes and
said she would make pancakes in the morning for breakfast.
We spent the rest of the evening giving Andres and Laura their gift which we hoped they liked and swapping and sharing photos of Roraima and our week with them. ....
