12th June
Drinking the water on the boat has paid its price on Mark. He has been on the toilet several times. He feels weak and tired. Hoping the Imodium kicks in soon. We later found out that the water on the boat is not purified, only filtered! debating whether to use the purifying tablets or let our bodies adapt to the water.
I now have a fever. I'm burning up. I've been in my hammock all day. Going through the diseases I may have. Malaria. Hepatitis A, Rabies ( from the monkey I fed in Rio) every travellers disease caution includes Fever! I'm even worried that the Meflaquine I took yesterday has been flushed out my body.
This boat ride has drained me. It's drained Stevie. I think we will be going down the Amazon on this boat for several more days....
I've tried having a shower to cool me down.
The shower helped a little. I'm still burning up. I showed a crew member our lonely planet book and pointed out fever and diarrhea and then pointed to a guy she was looking after. She said that he had these from the water system. I told him in sign language that I do too. She has given me some pills. Have no idea what they are.
Paulo has a slight upset stomach too.
We approach Monte Alegre at 7.30ish. There are a couple of other boats there. I jump off with Paulo to see if we can get a quicker boat. He has his bike so has to stay. I run back and tell Stevie to pack up as we are jumping ship.
The new boat says we will arrive Friday morning. Our old boat will probably arrive in Manaus atleast Monday. I will find out from Paulo some day..
We are on the new boat. It feels weird not knowing anyone. We wish we could have said goodbye properly.
