We arrived in Potosi the WORLDS HIGHEST city at 4,070m at 12.30am, Potosi was founded in the 15th century when silver deposits were discovered in the mountains. Within 200 years it became the richest city in South America, now the indigenous folk work in the mines to extract any minerals. Most only live 10years when working in the mines, which are open to tourists. God has no place in these mines so the locals pray to Tío there devil. Our guide book advised us that most of the hostels wouldn't have hot water and inadequate bedding for the cold nights we ventured to the best one on the list. It wasn't good for the budget, but it offered warm showers, great bedding and wifi. We managed to get a few hours sleep, catch up on the wifi and have a much needed shower after the 3 day trek.
Breakfast was sugar puffs with yogurt. It was nice although it was served in an egg pot. So two mouthfuls it was gone.
We finally ventured out and looked around Potosi, to be honest as it is a Unesco World Heritage site and because of its history we thought it would be more picturesque. As a visit to the mines didn't appeal to us the town only really offered beautiful architecture that is slowly begin dissolved by the growth of the town. We found a tour office and tried to organise a flight to Santa Cruz to save us the 20hr bus drive, but it was fully booked for the next 3-4 days which would eat into our time scale.
Seeing all we wanted to of Potosi we checked out our hostel and grabbed a bus to Sucre where we have arranged to meet up with Begonia and Kyle.
The hostel is really nice. After checking in we headed out for a beer and Chinese. After we went back to the hostel and met up with Kyle and Begonia where we chilled drinking wine and chatting before bed....
