The red tour today, had a feeling that I may have the same tour guide. Low and behold the crazy haired Turk walked through the door again, Ozi! This time is hair was down with a bandana in it. Not sure it suites him.
This tour was more local through the different valleys and the open air museum. It was Eid Al Adha today so some of the museums were not open until later in the day meaning the tour was flipped around a little so the first stop was to Uchashir, more fairy chimneys and the big castle of fairy chimneys where the town leader would live. We had a gander around, this tour I was on with a Swiss couple, couple from Miami and Russia. The only singleton again!
Next few stops were of valleys, the love valley (where all the lovers went) and as Ozi put it bluntely this was because the fair chimneys simply looked like penis’s. haha brilliant!
Next up was imagination valley, the rock formations looked like animals and he was right there were loads of different ones there. However I believe the camel looked more like a turkey at first.
We went on to the pottery cave after this where they built beautiful pottery and made lovely mosaics on them, the guy who gave us a demonstration made it look so easy! The men used to have to master pottery back in the day and until they could make a lid to their pot that fit perfectly they wouldn’t be able to gain permission for hand in marriage of the woman because this was their means of living so if he wasn’t able to produce good pottery he wouldn’t be able to make a living for the family. The woman would also have to weave a full carpet (size depending on the father) before she was allowed to seek marriage, she would be the carpet maker snd seller in the marriage. Forget being able to bake bread and use a tandoori oven, you need to know how to make a carpet!
After this we headed to monks valley, yes the name says it all. Where all the monks lived, more penis chimneys and fairy chimneys with monasteries built into them, i had chatted with the two couples by now and were climbing into the churches with them, I thought why not I can climb up this rock with burkenstocks and a floaty skirt on. Well all I can say is bloody good job there wasn’t anyone behind me because my skirt went very far up over my arse! Pleasant site!
It was a little tricky coming down but this time I had learnt my lesson to tie it tight around my knees with my hair band. No Marilyn Monroes this time.
It was so bloody hot, after a few pictures and exploring I headed back to the cafe for a drink and then it was lunch time. Today wasn’t set and in a less scenic place. It was a buffet but decent food and very fresh salad and meze stands.
Very sleepy after lunch and we had one more stop, the open air museum. Again more cathedrals and churches, they believe home to the Romans at one time. The paintings on the churches inside the caves were awesome, you just never imagine them being so creative. I’m not sure why they built caves and underground cities, pottery and made paintings out of pigeon eggs. We just have everything thought out and given to us on a plate now more so it stints our ability to think outside of the box I guess.
Luckily only around the corner from the hotel and after a shower to freshen up I wasn’t feeling as tired, went to some quaint little bar and listened to a podcast on the floor cushions and watched the world go by.
