We decided not to put an alarm on because we have been getting up pretty early the whole time we have been here.
Well typical.. We woke up at 11am! What the heck is all the about! we must have needed it. We bought some fruit last night so we could have something healthy for breakfast! Munched on that whilst we got ready and then headed out for dealy plaza and 6th floor museum which is right down the road.
Dealy plaza memorial was built in 1930-40s because a man, Mr.Dealy built the first building there in Texas and in the early 1900's and it was used for a number of different things such as mail, doctors surgery, police department, conscience store etc. there is a white X on the floor in the road where JFK was shot, it gave me goose pimples to think he was assassinated in the spot in front of me. I bought a book from the man that was in centre of the investigation and has the best selling book and DVD of the controversy on JFK. He was the reason that the re-opened the case. He signed it for me - aw celebrity star struck! I knew if find a celebrity on this tour! Haha.
The 6th floor museum was really good, we had an audio tour the whole way around the 6th floor; it told you about his presidency, his life and the assignation, there were videos showing when he got shot, his famous speeches and his funeral. I didn't realise how much he accomplished during his presidency; the first space launch, the Cuban missile crisis, the peace corp around the world, civil right legislation with the start of integration between white and black, and the war in Southeast Asia.
He was a very popular president!
The museum had the area where they found the gun and where area where the shots were fired from cornered off and preserved to how it was exactly found. With the floors, windows and walls the original.
Afterwards we had good in the historic west end area by our hotel, there were all red brick buildings surrounding us with, it was rather peaceful! :) we are at hoffbrau steakhouse, I had a salad with grilled chicken - very yummy! :)
We picked up some leaflets and found a rodeo outside of Dallas in Fort Worth so we googled mapped our path and headed for that this evening. From union station down the road from our hotel we got on a trinity express double decker train! Wow.
---
Well google maps were all wrong! It said in total it took 1hr 45minutes to get to our destination by train and bus! The bus took 40minutes and the bus only took maximum 15; Fort Worth was a surprisingly big city obviously not as big as Dallas but we were expecting a couple of cowboy ranches with horses strung up outside!
We got dropped off on the bus, right outside the street that was stockyard rodeo, there was cowboy line dancing music playing, old fashion cowboy shops with merchandise all related to cowboys, the boots and hats, the tassel shirts and trouser covers, the flashy belts and whips.
There was a country artist playing in another bar, all the stalls were made from wood and had the outback cowboy feeling, something you'd see on the old films in calamity jane!
We reached the end of the street and bought tickets for the rodeo at 8pm, we went in a little early and bought a beer each, it absolutely stunk of cow poo; it hit your throat straight away - pooey!
We sat down where ever we wanted to, they were all good seats. It filled up pretty quickly but before you knew it we were out of beer, surprise surprise I went and got us another one!
We soon realised why it stunk of cow poo when we got through the doors, because behind the wall were a cattle of calfs, one was definitely a sheep! You just know he was thinking what the hell am I doing here!? My identity has been mistaken for a cow.
The bull riding was really good, they were only staying on for around 3-6 seconds, they had to reach 8 seconds! One did make it but a few got their foots stuck when they fell off!
After that they done calf roping which I really didn't like! The calfs that we spotted earlier were realised one at a time, they'd start running and the cowboy on the horse would lassoo them around the neck and the horse would pull to keep them in place whilst the cowboy got off and tied any three legs together after tackling them to the floor, the last one we seen they nearly pulled him apart!! It was awful, I had to cover my eyes for most of that!
Anyways, we had to make an early get away for the bus back to town to get the last train back into Dallas.
Everyone we have met so far have been incredibly nice, everyone is so helpful and chatty!
The station was busy mum, don't panic we weren't stood there alone! And anyways we spotted some Chinese people, you know your in the right tourist spots when you see them! Haha.
