A late check out this morning which meant we could have a lie in in our ten bed private dorm. Awesome!
We need some room mates now to keep us sane; we are going a little senile now.
We packed up and went for breakfast on the front, absolute beauty of a day again! The sun was beaming and there was no wind again - we are finally being spoilt with this beautiful weather and it really makes the scenery look even better!
The bus was empty again, only 17 of us on it and this was our group to be until franz josef possibly until Queenstown because everyone will do the minimum amount of nights in the stops going down the west coast.
Dramatic scenery everywhere the eye could see and even better when we stopped at nelson National Park lakes, two mountains either side of a huge mirror like lake with a snow covered mountain in the middle. Absolutely beautiful! Just one little boardwalk that you could jump into the lake from which conveniently had about one hundred big fat 3 metre long eels hiding underneath it. Omg I hate eels and these b*****s were the biggest I’d ever seen. As long as you don’t get a curious one once you’ve jumped in trying to come near you I don’t mind but it’s still the fear, haha. Me and Ellie first to jump again! My goodness me it was freezing, took our breath away and the water gave us brain freeze once we jumped in. (The water tasted good though, very fresh!) the faster we swam the warmer we thought we would get but no. I think the faster we swam the colder we got, it was absolutely Baltic!
After a warm in the sun and lunch on the bus we headed down to Westport where it used to be an old port for shipping Queenstown gold to Australia and then a coal mining town and then a deserted town that is now only making a come back with surfing and caving, it was absolutely dead there. Huge wide roads with Main Street of shops and lots of houses but with no traffic or even a moving car. It’s as if a zombie apocalypse had swept over town and everything had been left how it is with just the people removed. Very bizarre!
The hostel was a surf school, very funky and eco friendly. The showers were either a scald your head situation or brain freeze. The best bit of it was definitely the log fire! Everyone went out to watch England loose against South Africa in the World Cup final so me and El had free fall of the log fire. Winnnnner!
