Wasn’t feeling so bad this morning considering we only had about 6 hours sleep. Breakfast at 8am, we had cereal, oats granola - yummy!! We left at 9am to drop us into rotorua and for the bus to pick up more people and it head onto Taupo. That would be us in two more days.
Still freezing but the sun was out! We couldn’t check into the room until 12 midday so we had a wander around town and found a shop for Ellie to buy a thermal. We were a little zombified but it was a nice bit of fresh air, despite the smell of egg fart gasses every now and then that you would walk into.
Considering this place is a big “city” (town) and has one of
The biggest populations in the east coast it wasn’t at all busy anywhere.
After check in we took it upon ourselves to walk out to the skyline park 4km outside of town through the smelly park around the smelly geysers and sulphur filled volcanic lakes, over the pavement with a melted drain and sulphur built up around them and finally to the skyline park. A gondola ride up to the top of the mountain and a few goes on the luge rides like Toboggans you operated with the handle bars pulling them back and forward to stop or go fast once at the bottom a skiff back up. Lovey and sunny still, still a cold breeze to make it a little nippy but nothing a mulled apple cider outside in the sun overlooking the lake and Rotorua that wouldn’t stop us from being cold.
Another nice afternoon, our batteries are pretty damn low now though. On the 12% mark witch means power mode because we can’t talk and walk another 4km back home lol.
But we made it and a lot quicker than when we were on our way out. Ellie was on salad making duty whilst I cooked the chicken (I don’t like the yummy bits so I cut them off and she’s good at chopping an avacado - perfect mix).
And early night was on the cards for all eight of us in the room because we were shattered from Maori village last night. Mike the only
Boy still wanted to wind us up though, throwing that lemon about I kindly borrowed from waitomo for him... he threw it at me, it landed on my bed.
Guess what Mikes wale up call was this morning.... that big fat lemon that landed on my bed last night. Straight in the chest it went from across the other side of the room, such a good aim! Good job we were al on the top bunk I couldn’t have curved it to get it to bottom bunk haha!
Me and El decided on the cinema this morning because the weather was drizzling and miserable. The cinema was way cheaper than Auckland! So we watched the Joker and had breakfast in the cinema.
The weather picked up this afternoon so we strolled around the lake, the parks and through the town. Again, a Wednesday afternoon and it’s absolutely dead. Not a sole in shops or even working in the shops and restaurants really.
Late afternoon we got back to the hostel and went out a little later on to the bar next door that had a toga party going on. The most toga i was getting to was two plaits wrapped over my head.
It was dead in there, way too much space and not enough seating. We did however play ping pong (welsh style) bounce it off the floor, wall, bar, disco light and run for it around the room so you keep the ball in haha.
China, Japan move out of the way... Tokyo 2020 ping pong champions, Beth and Ellie. We won a free jagermeister cup though, perfect for a tea or coffee on the move!
