The last breakfast, I had to check out at 12pm but not getting boat until 4pm which is slightly annoying because I'll be sweaty.
I got up headed to the beach and tried to tan my white belly. It was very windy! And I couldn't really keep my eyes open enough to read another chapter of my book.
Peaceful and relaxing I had a few wees in the sea, because you can't get enough of them when you're surrounded by water. I headed back about 11:30 from bikini beach to the hotel down the sand path and showered. Got ready to check out at 12 on the dot.
I sat in the front garden and wrote this blog and enjoyed the trees and sea. The temperature was rather nice in the shade with the wind blowing. My little waiter friend was very nice again as he is always as soon as I sit down, he brings me juice and a water glass, today I had coffee and a cold towel. What a gem!
The activities guy that wanders around who I'm now pretty sure is the owner or partner to the hotel. He told me that I could have kept the room until 4pm . Bloody marvellous! I could have stayed at the beach longer and showered later. Anyways he gave me the room back and I went to get a pot noodle for a late dinner and showered again because I was sweaty. Feeling much more fresh after the chill on the balcony watching the locals go by below. I checked out again at 3:30pm and went down to get the boat at 3:45pm. Flight at 7pm, I'm a little sweaty palmed in getting there in time, the boat here took an hour, but this boat seems a bit bigger so it may go slower.
Only boy was I wrong, he smashed it through the waves, it actually made me feel a little bit sea sick and I don't get that feeling.
The waves were huge! He didn't stop though and plowed on! We stopped at Male before the airport, I was at the airport in 38 minutes, what a timing! He must have been in a rush haha.
Now for the rat race, I was desperate for a pee after bouncing over the waves so that was on the cards first. Struggled to see departures despite there being a big effing sign for it! It was warm under the arrivals/departure hall it was more like a greenhouse. I queued to go into the departure check in desks. This was long, again people not knowing what to do with security scanners… what is that! Also realising why so many people are all dressed in beach wear or summer dresses, they're probably going back to Sri Lanka!
I'd checked in so I was good to go! Only I got upstairs and I needed to do another one of those effing immigration forms for departure, I stood in the queue anyways because i knew how to cut corners with the form now, as they didn't want certain things on it.
Got to the desk, he doesn't accept my boarding pass on my phone… why the hell do they let you check in with a paperless boarding card otherwise. It's so backwards! So back downstairs I go, luckily the queue was next to nothing only Spanish in the queue not knowing that all three of them had to go to the checkin desk. Then she was asking them to weigh their hand luggage, I was definitely over 10kg, I could feel it and I had changed outfit on my way bs I with lighter clothes. I quickly grabbed a few things and chucked into my black bag that I thought could pass for me putting on a different clothing afterwards. Only to be called to another desk where she didn't check the weight, phewwww.
Back upstairs I was in this time thankfully and got through to security to check bags again. A bit of a wait and all hot and bothered now but lesson learnt again..
the airport was pretty small and pretty s***ty. The departure gates 1-6 were all downstairs with a Burger King and a few shops upstairs. A Chinese lounge, they're everywhere but also must have money plowed into Maldives because they have Chinese writing on their signs too. Nightmare.
I repacked my bag, sorted myself out and bought two water to get rid of my currency. All $2 worth so no point in changing back.
Downstairs only flights on the gates were going to the gulf haha. Doha, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi x2. What a coincident. There must be a lot of connecting flights as they're big airlines (apart from Wizz air haha).
Of course they're all pushing in, I was a little worried about them weighing my bag again. The set up was weird, gate desk at the end of the room and in front of each there were two rows of chairs and then either side of them you queued to get down to the gate. Lucky me I assessed the situation and was stood "coincidently" I min front of the line for non priority passengers. So first on the plane almost. I don't usually do that, I only did to make sure my bag went on the hold above. We boarded pretty damn fast again, westerners know how to do it! We took off on time at 7pm and my aisle seat suited me until everyone wanted to get up and move around knocking my arm.
Due to land at 11:10pm in Abu Dhabi, that's a 5 hour flight but captain is hoping for an earlier finish so fingers crossed! I can be back in bed by 1am I'm hoping for anyways! What a cracking holiday and it only cost me 1800aed approx. Which is about £385 for 5 days in the Maldives! Budget travel is possible haha. Also if mam and dad give you a Christmas present of dives in the Maldives hehe (thank you xoxo) good price too, $260 for 6 dives.
That reminds me! The Vietnamese lady, she did a day trip from the local island to a resort. She said the prices there for the same day trips that we did on maafushi for $30 were $100!! Also one dive was $200 which is insane! That's why Maldives is expensive, once your in these resorts on the islands that have nothing else but that hotel, they can charge you what they want.
Top tip : go to a local island and do your activities and if you want the plushness of a water villa do that for the last day or two of your trip.
Also a boat is $25 one way from airport to maafushi, a sea plane is probably $400.
Travel smart! You can go to more places haha!
