Not too much of an early start, dropped the car off at Etihad plaza again and grabbed a passing taxi 2 minutes up the road to the airport.
Finally, I have checked in for a Wizz Air flight and not needed to go to the check in desk because your boarding paper "isn't a boarding card"! Dropped off, straight to security and through to departures in less than 5 minutes, a new record for sure, easy when it's Abu Dhabi and there are very few flights in and out of the place.
Also, forgot how lovey it was travelling by yourself, quiet, calm, easy and fast!
Got some face cream, tried to change my USD notes for smaller ones at exchange hut, they can't do that…. Reason: bone idol idiots.
Went to the Todd English pub, but guess what? I'm a changed woman! No booze, just a sparkling water and some food to tie me over for the day.
Tried to faff about with my camera and get to grips with the resolution and white balance or what ever it may be called so I can try to get some good photos when I dive this week, let's hope it works!
Pretty cold in the airport, I grabbed a large latte, probably regret that later!
Forgot how much nicer and easier it is to fly with expats/westerners. They have airport and plane etiquette and know how to board a plane in a timely and suitable manner. Of course you get the odd moron who likes to try make their own rules up but fair play to wizz air they don't take no s***.
We were boarded in 20 minutes and took on time, bloody marvellous! A space between me and another girl, I had window seat but of course on the wing because that seems to be where I'm placed always. 5 hours, is longer than I expected for this flight but I'm sure it's going to fly by (haha).
He muffled over the speaker we may be in for a bumpy ride but we had a pretty smooth ride the entire way to be honest, landed relatively early aswell (30 minutes earlier than I expected). Male airport, an island with a landing strip that's about it haha.
Landed, straight into the hut, had to log onto the WiFi to sign an immigration form for the country, glad the little man was stood next to me because he had me skip loads of it just to get a qr code that didn't even get checked.
Straight out and to counter D3 for my boat, wasn't leaving for another hour… an hour to kill and advised to change some of my USD to local currency because I was going to a local island so the rate would be rubbish. I did so back inside the security area before arrivals hall.
Had time to sit at the open aired arrival hall and watch the boats go by as the dock is right outside. Was quite pleasant with the sun setting.
Still hasn't sunk in that I'm in Maldives, quite strange really.
7pm I went back to the counter and was escorted to the shared speed boat 'ESCAPE' the maafushi taxi.
Two dumb blonde English girls got on the boat, wouldn't take for sitting inside the boat and wanted to sit out, wanted to see the fish jumping out of the sea apparently (from what I was listening to) I'm not sure they understand the concept of what fish do and the fact it's dark outside now. As soon as they got in the boat with the plastic window covers locked down…. They sprayed bug spray. Absolutely stunk.
Let's hope they're not staying at my hotel, I can't imagine they're diving, if they are I'll be refusing to buddy with them.
Got off the boat, to a sign for me, the hotel was a super long walk from the dock (20m away) haha. The guy with the sign said that I had half board so dinner also included, wasn't sure this was correct as I'd only booked breakfast. Got to check in there were about 5 people trying to do things for me and give me things all at once so it was a little overwhelming. The receptionist reconfirmed I was half board again even after I asked her if she was sure about that?
So I didn't argue, I got the tour sorted for the morning to swim with reef sharks and rays and then I went and showered before heading down to the restaurant outside the front of the hotel where they had buffet dinner.
It didn't look too fancy, and I wasn't really that hungry so just a light snack I tried. As soon as I sat down the man from the what's app came over to me and asked me if I wanted the food charged to my room, to which I later into him and said that your communication is extremely poor today and prior to me arriving so you need to sort this out. He let me have the food for that night only and then I made a way up the wooden hill and into bed, bed was actually very comfy. I rang mam and dad and went to sleepy byes.
