We both woke up on the first alarm that was set this morning, which is unusual for us. Well, me!
We were up and ready, we had eaten our yoghurts to help us going a little; all by 3.50am and down to reception to get the taxi to the airport.
Last night our flight got rescheduled to Kuala Lumpur from 6am to 7am, I tried to change the taxi but the guys at receipts on said 4am was fine to leave for the airport and there were sometimes traffic jams at that time on the road outside, which we wouldn't have put passed him considering the road was constantly at a stand still with cars.
Our driver, Indonesian and as punctual as they always are here; was ready and waiting for us. I checked out as we were off. There was no traffic on the road so we were at the airport by 4.15am! Really early as usual for us! Haha.
We could drop our baggage straight away because we had already checked in two weeks ago. The airport was really quiet and looked brand new! We went through to departures and waited in the freezing cold for our flight. These airports go from one extreme to another! At check in, immigration and security (the parts that are most stressful to people and make people all hot and bothered - there are no air conditioning units around!) the moment you relax and sit down in departures they blast the air conditioning on you so that you can't sit down in a comfortable temperature and relax before your flight. Nightmare places these airports!
The flight was on time at 7am, the flight was hardly full so me and Scott had three seats between us, it gave us a little bit more extra room! The flight was really smooth! We didn't feel a bump the entire way, the weather was really nice and I fell asleep for at least hour and half which is unusual for me unless I have some sort of travel/sleeping tablets in my system to knock me out!
We went over Mount Batur and the other two volcanoes that are next to it. Wow! We thought we were high, the other two volcanoes made Batur look pathetically small; and what we soon realised was we were climbing a volcano which I inside the crate of another volcano! How messed up is that. A whole mass of volcano and active larva business going on in that area and we got in the middle of it and climbed it. Silly people! Haha.
Once we arrived in Kuala Lumpur we had plenty of time to kill, we tried to take our time going through immigration and baggage claim to check back in for our next flight but it wasn't the case because there wasn't anyone about so it didn't take long at all!
We went to McDonald's and got a mango frappe each and a chocolate muffin! Whoops. We were both hanging, we were so tired and lethargic it was ridiculous! I hate early mornings! God help us by the end of the day, we will be like zombies!
We played cards out on the garden bit between the departures and arrivals hall, it was too cold to sit inside under the air con. Thy have no consistency or control of temperature with these things, there's no happy medium.
We drew at cards 1-1 Scott wanted to stop because he was scared if beat him I think... Ha!
12pm hit and we headed to McDonald's for our free meal, courtesy of Air Asia when they rescheduled and delayed our flight to Medan about 5 times last month. At least we didn't have to buy lunch! Although we did go over by 1ringt (20p) and the McDonald's woman said not to worry about it that she would pay for it for us. Felt awful because they aren't on much money at all here, although I doubt they would know by the end of the day that 1ringt was missing!
After lunch we went down to departure lounge watched an episode of 'the listener' on you tube, it's a Canadian crime series we are obsessed with, this is a result of only having the fox crime channel in our rooms majority of the time in Bali. We had a look around the apple store, surprise surprise. Scott is obsessed with these technology store.. God help me in Japan!
We went down to the gate, they made us empty our bag going through another security scanner. Personally I think it was because we were acting like right bloody tourists by pointing out our bag on the scanning machine and acting amazed at it all. Such losers.
We charged our phones at the charging point and overheard someone saying that there aren't any entertainment screens on the plane and then I wondered if we even had food included for this 7 hour flight. Silly me, I should have checked! It's just every airline I've ever flown with, if you have a flight over 5 hours you usually get either a snack or a meal and some sort of entertainment for free, but we a super budget line now and they aren't going to give anything for free!
We were last getting on the plane because we wanted to charge our phones to the max and didn't want to queue for ages to get on the plane, the plane was tattier inside than the little planes we get on with air Asia and this was a jumbo.
There were no TVs in the back of the seats and we didn't have any cash on us to buy food or drink because we thought it would be included! Luckily we had some sterling left over so we used that to get a drink and a noodle pot later on in the flight.
This flight wasn't full either, with nine seats in an aisle, me and Scott had a run away again (we must smell today) the person next to us moved and we had three seats between us in the middle aisle. Neither of us slept much. We sort of took it in turns to lie down resting our heads on one another. I think I dosed off for about an hour but that was about it. I wasn't looking forward to the journey with nothing to distract me and the captain said that we would experience turbulence at some point. Great!
The flight got in at 11pm Tokyo time, we didn't have any turbulence the entire way and we survived the journey without any entertainment. It wasn't too bad, you just over think things when you expect it different things.
We got told by the air hostess that we probably won't make the last train into the city and that all that was left to take were taxis that were really expensive at $50, panicking and not wanting to pay stupid money to get into the city so we ran to immigration and luckily enough we went straight through pretty much. The only thing that was stalling us was waiting for our bags, they came out at 11.40pm and we asked someone when the last train was and they said 00.10am. We have never put our rucksacks on so quickly...
We had to get money out so it was as though we were on a treasure hunt trying to find a bloody ATM, everyone looking at us like we were crazy. Shouting at each other, 'over here! Over here!' Luckily there was a security guard at the ticket counters that helped us out on what ticket we had to get because everything was in Japanese!
We made it to the train station at 23.48pm and the train was at 23.55pm! Phew... The train was almost empty, however we had to change trains half way to get to our destination. The second train was full of drunken business men and women, all of them still in there works clothes with their man handbags and briefcases, the train absolutely stunk of beer! Almost all of them were drunk, either sleepy drunk or smiley drunk, some could barely use their phones. It was hilarious watching them all! It passed the time as we had a cramped 30 minute train ride until we got to Nippori Station at 1am. Luckily our hotel was right next to the train station and there were still people about so it wasn't scary!
I'm feeling a little overwhelmed that we have actually made it to Tokyo, I can't believe we are nearly at the end of our trip!
It's everything I expected it to be with the massive advertising boards and the Japanese writing signs going going down the sides of buildings, it's so cool!
I can't wait to explore tomorrow.
However we had been travelling almost 23 hours by now and I just needed some water and bed, once we checked in we went down to the family mart and got ourselves a much needed drink... Of water.
Our room is really small and the bed is a small double bed, I would say a big single bed, but it will do! we have a bath and the toilet seat is electronic. It's heated and has a built in bum gun!
