Very tired this morning, as per in the mornings for me I suppose. It was still dusk out and the train was 06:25am take off down to Naples,
I had booked 1st class, pretty decent and the carriage was empty near enough which I guess is sort of expected for such an early train down the coast?
Got into Naples dead on time, the bus shuttle company suggested I go for the 10:30am shuttle in case I miss the shuttle at 08:30am which would only wait for 10 minutes if I was late. Sod's law that I was on time and had to wait in the train station for my pick up, then he was late because the first pick up was the airport collection so yes I could have done the earlier shuttle… never mind I got front seat in the big suv and we headed to Almalfi, everyone else in the back was getting off in Sorrento. It was like being on package holiday again waiting for them to say your name as you pull up to the hotels you hope aren't yours haha.
Lucky me I was last and it was a nice hotel, whilst driving the coast the driver (Valencia) stopped for me to get out and take photos which was lovely and got to taste dried tomato and oh.my.god. The taste stayed with me for over 3 hours so good! And the smell of the chillies and fruit was gorgeous. The size of the lemons and peaches/apricots were humongous!!!
The views amazing and I was so happy to be out of the city again!
Naples was crazy from the very small part I saw and just like Rome filled with homeless people. I also still can't get to grips with why so many people around the world drive mopeds with helmets on and never put a helmet on their kids, what's that all about?
Also in Greece and here in Italy I have seen a lot of petrol stations built into/underneath residential buildings. That's not going to end pretty if god forbid anything happened! Europe seem to also be on their own level when it comes to Health and Safety. It's not just Asia up to crazy dangerous s***.
Arrived at La Taverna Del Leone hotel, run by a family. The guy was lovely showed me the maps and suggested itinerary; how to use the buses etc. So I got up to the room, showered and went out to Positano, I walked today though needing to move my legs a little. The views, my god! They could never get boring - wow!
Positano was vibrant, full of shops selling items covered in lemons. Lemons clothes, lemon candles and soap and ornaments, actual lemons, lemon cakes and pastries. They are lemon wild here and proud of their almalfi lemons. Not to mention their limoncello!
Late lunch on the top of Positano looking down over - what a view! And the mussels were delicious and so fresh!!
I went down to the sea front, found a cheap little beach hut bar. Had a wine and watched the scenery and people for a while. Then found a small spot on the free part of the beach to sit and enjoy, I did brace the water because it was so clear and how can you resist such inviting looking water? Not me!
I later had a bus back and had an early night shattered from the travelling today.
