Woke up early at 7am again! I can't wake up any later really which is a little annoying but helpful when we want to get out and look about! Got dressed, facetimed mum and grandma, first time Ross seen grandmas face in about 3 months! We didn't want to sit down and eat food for breakfast so we got it on the go, it was boiling out again this morning, around 25 degrees at 9am! We walked up through to the hills, went through a lovely suburban like area, decided to ask a local if we were going the right way, however we weren't! Back down to the main road and across a few blocks, we found the big statue bear and the entrance to 'Griffith Park' all the parks have main roads which I still think is weird. But we walked through a little river park area type place called ferndale, it had a stream going through it with little crayfish in there, Ross of course wanted to jump in and catch them! I had to drag him away from the stream to carry on walking, then we found gold fish in the stream which was slightly odd! Ross had a plan if he was homeless he would jump the fence into this little park at night, make a net ( with what I don't know) and then make a little fire on the sand with all the dry leaves twigs and eat the crayfish he would caught! He watches way too many bear grills adventure program's -_- they are band from now on haha. There was a huge sign saying HIGH warning for bush fires today. - great! That's all we need. They're in a middle of a drought as we found out the stream stopped half way so it must of been the last of the water going through, poor crayfish! All going to waste and not being eaten and put to good use for the homeless! We reached a picnic area where there was BBQ stands and a park and restrooms, everyone seemed to meeting there and having BBQ and picnics as families for the day, they had beer and gazebos it seemed fab!! Up the dirt track we went, like a good old walk you see! ;) Griffith observatory in sight, we were nearly level with all the helicopters! And then we thought the mascot bear was coming around the corner! This bull dog/boxer/dribbling/growling bear like thing came stomping around the corner with a full harness and lead on, which was safe! Only he was taking his 5foot owner for a ride! Just as well as got on his back and rode him down the hill haha!
We got to the top, sweating conkers! It was so so hot now, I'd say easily 30 degrees at 10am! We went in the observatory, it is space and astronomer, with live talks and demonstrations of how they measure stars and the weather and seasons right the way through since the early 1800's it was really cool, some things were a little confusing you needed to be a little bit of a space need to understand it all, Scott would be in his oils; telling the professionals how everything happens haha. We facetimed mum and dad when we were on the balcony of the observatory, over looking the whole of L.A and the HOLLYWOOD sign; they were sat in the cold and rain at home haha! There are hell if a lot of Spanish, Latin Americans and sand babies(Iranians) as the tour guide mentioned last night! They came bought a lot of Beverley hills just because they can..! (I wish)
Toilet stop, advantage of wifi to google map out wereabouts and which trail to take up to the closest point of the sign and we were off again!!
Hiked up to a point which have us a great view and there were hardly anyone there, we thought we would be adventurous and rock climb down one small peak and up to the other (in Croatia sandals and flip flops may I add) it was worth it though, we had some good shots of the sign :)
After a few good ole tripod moments and selfie pole snaps we were off rock climbing our decent back down. Ross thought it would be a good idea to hike down a little hill, grabbing on to dead bushes and sliding through the dirt and dust! Definitely thinks he's bear grills now! He's getting awful adventurous!
Found the trail and then low and behold down another huge steep hill, 'well it's accessible because there are footprints in the sand' yes Ross.. Coming up and they are trainer footprints, we have sandals on! But we slid down anyways! I went half way down on my bum, our feet were black!! Carried on back down through all of the park and out on to western avenue on franklin. Stopped in Getty market, it was basically a morrisons but all the food looked ten times fresher and healthier, well the fresh food isle did anyways! There was masses of it all! And lots if free tasters of ape and grapes and melon! We may as well just come here for breakfast, it's free and they were offering us more than one sample each haha! We bought a small packet of raspberry granola, Greek yoghurt and minute maid lemonade for breakfast and then a huge salad pot each for lunch, I had chicken cesear and Ross had BBQ chicken. We are it back at the hotel room, got showered and dressed and went back out to see paramount pictures and I wanted to go to DASH store on Melrose avenue, missed the bus and didn't know when a next one was coming we took the chance and walked, had a woobly half way when realised it was 30 blocks left to go after half hour walking. So we walked in silence! The shops were incredible and very expensive! A lot of the big fashion names were based there it seemed. Got to DASH store with 10minuted left of opening time, I wanted a DASH tshirt but they were $60 dollars and that was a little much for me old budget! So I got a keyring and nail file :) we were absolutely popped afterwards so decided to have an early night catch up on some blog writing and Internet searching for our next stops; we bought 6 bottles of beer each and a nachos plate from Walgreens, Ross or me didn't even get checked for id, they're not as strict as you think over here. If your confident and not all fidgety and over chatty(nervous talk) they don't seem to bother asking for it. and went to the room to watch the VMAs, which we didn't realise was down in Santa Monica; weird thinking it was going on Live, 10-15 minutes drive down the road from you!
Forgot to say; on our way out we seen a pigeon get run over and it's neck was all broke and it was flapping about, poor thing! Another pigeon dived into help but it was too late, it got run over for the second time! Ouch.
*didnt realise that the Hollywood sign used to be HollywoodLand until they had an earthquake decades ago that knock the 'land' off the end! Sounds better the way it is now I think*
Peace out from Hollywood!
