Saturday 3 May
Today we say goodbye Dennis and Cookie and officially leave America as we take the train from Rochester to Toronto. It seems odd to be leaving the USA after such a long time there and the wet and grey weather seems to fit the mood. Once we arrive at Niagara Falls and the train is over the border into Canada it makes quite a lengthy stop for the officials to board to inspect all the passengers' documents. The very young looking man who takes a look at our passports is obviously very new on the job and I have to remind him to take out our US departure card and advise him he has stamped our passports with the wrong date! After all the officials have left the train and the Canadian crew have boarded and then finally those passengers waiting to join the train at Niagara Falls are allowed on board and we are once again on our way and this time on Canadian soil.
Sunday 4 May
Today is a beautiful sunny day and we are off to see the sights of Toronto. Straight onto the underground and we see how Toronto's system, to compare with those of San Francisco and D.C, to our first stop at the CN Tower. After taking the elevator to the Look Out Level we are 346m (1,136ft) above the city. We also take a very quick look at the Glass Floor by standing on a very tiny corner! Then another elevator to the Sky Pod, which is the world's highest man made observation level at 447m (1,465ft) giving us spectactular panoramic views of distances up to 160kms (100miles). The rest of our day is spent sauntering along Queens Quay on the edge of Lake Ontario. On such a lovely day it really helps to make Toronto a beautiful city.
