Sunday 20 April
We are off to Washington DC today to see the capital of the country we have seen so much of! We stop for for brunch at a cafe in Sperryville - a very small town but a lovely place and the hot chocolate is the best I have ever tasted. On the way we both notice a couple of places that make "Antique Tables Daily" - don't know what the experts on the Antiques Roadshow would make of that!
Unfortunately, back on the road and the rain has started for the rest of our ride to DC and it ends up being quite heavy. Safely in our motel room for the night, a flood warning is in place for us tonight and a tornado watch for the Shenandoah Valley - just got out of that one!
Monday 21 April
It's been raining all night and is still raining when we awake but fortunately we won't be on the bike today as we have arranged to see the sights of DC on a tour bus and, when the bus arrives, we are the only ones booked for today. We start with all the war memorials - the Vietnam, Korean and WWII but then see the larger buildings that DC is famous for - the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Capitol Building and, of course, the White House. The rain does dampen the spirits slightly but it is great to see these places. Also on the agenda is a visit to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing where the "green back" is printed. We also drive past the Pentagon.
Tuesday 22 April
Another city's public transport system experienced today as we travel into town on the DC Metro to visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Then, as the weather was a lot better, we walked around the sights including the White House and the Washington Monument.
