Well, I thought we were going to see Old Siam as in the "King and I " movie but no.
Today we visited New Old Siam. There is nothing old it this part of town. Man alive, this is
a shoppers dream !! Unfortunately I am not much of a shopper!
There are blocks and blocks of shopping malls and they are not only blocks ,they are in high rises
like 8 to 10 levels all connected with halls, escalators ,arches you name it you just keep walking and walking and walking and walking.
Finally found a seat to sit down for 1/2 an hour then more walking!! Can't buy anything YET but watch out coming home.
The Thais eat anytime. There is food everywhere,at any hour, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, American (Burger Kings ,Wendys, ) Thai. Food Courts , Restaurants, street food. Food is everywhere. If your hungry you don't have far to go.
We went to Japanese cafe and had a beef and big noodle soup dish not sure of the name. They give you a big spoon and chop sticks. It was hilarious trying to figure out how to get these noodles in your mouth. They kept slipping off the spoon, They didn't want to be cut against the side of the bowl with the spoon ,they would slide to the side. Determination finally won!! But I am still chuckling.
When we were about finished eating , we started watching the other customers. The way to eat these noodles is to take chop sticks , pick up one or two noodles and lay it in a circle on your spoon (easy). Then insert spoon in mouth!! Yea ! it works---------------------Well if you can figure out how to hold the chop sticks!! :)
Now to the two Sisters our Homestay Hosts
Very sweet Ladies. The eldest is a photographer . She takes incredible pictures for magazines, posters , UNESCO, designs brochures for World heritage, and National Parks to name a few.
The youngest is a Ballet Teacher. She teaches classes in this building in Old Siam.
She also was recommend to the King of Bhutan . So she flys there and teaches as well.
There is such a special feeling in Thailand. You are saluted to when you walk in to higher end stores . You are bowed to when you come into an isle at a store to pay for your purchases.
The young people are very polite always.
Bangkok is a bit overwhelming. A bit intimadating
It is huge , People everywhere. There is a lot of money in this city as well as a lot of poverty .
The same as any county or city.
Traffic flows a bit differently here. The streets are narrow, especially the back streets. There are very skilled drivers here!
You have cement walls on both sides, cars coming both ways , and motorcycles that can pass down the middle or on either side.
If you are polite you reach out and pull your mirror in so they do not have to work at getting between it and the car on the other lane.
OH one more thing. If you are driving make sure you drive on the left!! Yes ,left!!
It felt very strange to get into a car with the driver on the right. But as you are riding along you hold your breath as they turn in the wrong lane--- until you realize your not in Kansas anymore.
Your in Thailand
