Left Big Sur after taking photos of our frozen car, and enjoying the crisp air as the stream trickled past just off our verandah. The driving was speactacular, the cliffs high and the road windy. Lots of photo opportunities, but I haven't had a chance to grab them - the pic here is off the internet, but ours will look very similar.
Highlights for the day:
Highway One. A magic drive.
Morro Bay Bakery: Awesome food, and a delicious 'Death By Chocolate' shake. Great scenery, too.
Just lots of amazing vistas around every tight corner, spectacular high views etc. We made it to Sanata Monica around dusk so wandered around the pier after checking out an empty, freezing Muscle Beach at sunset. Have to use our imagination a bit there.
Found a Sizzler for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. A little bit like what it used to be back home - but no ueues, better range and better service.
Found a dive of a Motel near the airport. We just wanted to be close as we had the car to return and early start needed, knowing the airport would be jam packed just before Xmas. The hotel had recently been vacated by the cockroaches I think, who had left in disgust. Cheap and semi-cheerful, right on a main drag and right under the flight path. Sleep was just a wild dream (Of trucks squishing us, muggings on our doorstep and stray plane tyres srushing our hotel...) but we figured we were pretty tired so that would overcome the noise..... Fail!
