Days 645-654, 9-18 Mar '16, Chateau de la Rochefaucauld... and farewell to the countryside.
We've spent our last week or so in France enjoying the Spring weather that has finally arrived. We've been walking for miles in the sunshine and having a fine time. Our last excursion was a drive to one of the oldest and grandest chateaus in France - Chateau de la Rochefoucauld. Dating back to 980 AD, the very first building on the site was a fortified camp built on a rock above a river - Foucauld's Rock. The rock is still there, tucked away in the chateau's basement. A great visit. The current Duke and Duchess live in Paris - but his mum is still there tucked away in the 18th C. wing. Rattling about a bit we imagine. We spent the last few days packing and cleaning. Never ceases to amaze us how we manage to perform a reverse "big-bang" and get everything back into our bags. Off to Paris early tomorrow morning and then Amsterdam on Sunday... A very big couple of days to come.
