Hey Guys, amy here, altho think Sam will add some bits on about what we've been doing in the last few days as it appears that we have been rather slack with the blog writing, that is not our fault, we did try a few days ago but the internet would not let us on the blog site - not impressed!!
Ok, so we left Magnetic Island last sunday (1st March) after a day on the beach, still no swimming randomly in the sea but we did actually swim inside the stinger net, our first time in australian waters!! It was nice, very warm and so we spent not much time sunbathing (or rather shade bathing) and most of the time in sea. I would just like to clarify Denise that yes we did wear helmets, no chance that we'd have hired them if not. So we arrived in Townsville late on sunday night after getting the ferry back. First impressions were not good lol. The hostel was like a seedy motel, not very clean rooms but they did have a good washing line lol!! We met our new roommate and decided to all venture out to find dinner, normally this wouldnt be such an effort but on this occasion it was, not only were there minimal amount of eating establishments, the ones we could find appeared to all be closed on a sunday, so we ended up right back where we started, the italian next to the hostel. Very nice food (bit more expensive than normal) but very cheap wine!!!! After dinner we decided to go nextdoor to have a drink in the Irish pub and we had a couple of games of pool - sounds easy but the table was round and there was a ball missing, so we had to try and catch the first one potted and put it back on the table, something that I wasn't so good at. Me and Sam managed to lose all three games lol, not very successful. After this we sat down to enjoy the music and have a few more pints - for once we had pints instead of the stupid schooner things the yserve here (kinda half way between pint and half pint but as expensive as a pint) and it was cider yey!!!!!
The next morning I surfaced to investigate the free breakfast (bread and minging cornflakes) but Sam decided that she was way to hungover to even lift her head from the pillow. After faffing around a bit I got bored of waiting for her to "overcome" the hangover and ventured out to entertain myself. Ok, so imagine if you will Hinckley town centre with more shops but them all booarded up or empty, no people and a smattering of tacky toursit shops........well thats Townsville town centre.........thrilling and it entertained me for all of 20 minutes.....what did entertain me was doing the food shopping at woolworths (still get excited everytime I go in there lol). (Sorry for those who dont know Hinckley town centre.....just imagine a dump with no shops and no people lol). So I venture back from my "exicting" shopping trip to see whether Sam had gotten up......nope lol!! After lunch (still alone cos Sam went back to bed) I decided to wander down the Strand, basically a walkway right next to the beach and you'll be pleased to know I took lots and lots of photos (including some Amy specials - you'll know them when you see them - photos will be coming soon too). There was 2 stinger nets but you couldnt siwm in them due to " a crocodile sighting" and I found the rockpool that they have there, basically an outdoor swimming pool but the waters pumped in from the sea and then decideed that I'd had enough of being on my own and wandered back.
The next day we got the bus to Airlie Beach and so Sam didnt get to experience the excitement that was Tonwsville.......actually though the strand was rather nice, just the town centre was a ghost town.
Right I'm off now but Sam's busy typing about the last few days we've had in Airlie Beach.
Love to all xxx
