Flight to Singapore was uneventful - took off promptly at 2245.
Watched Slumdog Millionaire, although will need to see it again as sound quality a bit suspect......Declined food. Got someway into Quantum of Solace before dozing off. Annelise was away with the fairies…..Woke and flicked through the channels before refreshing my memory of Kill Bill 2. Decided to watch Bond properly however just as some kind of desert hideaway baddie base was being destroyed doubly handedly by Bond and his super-mod accomplice the headsets were collected.
6am Singapore airport. Not a total disaster for killing 3 hours. However the day started on a sad note when I broke the news to Annelise that Fulham had crashed out of the FA cup. Things went from bad to worse: we found a sports bar with a colossal high-def TV showing - you've guessed it - Fulham losing to Hull in injury time. In order to lift poor A-lo's spirits I booked us a couple of 30 minute treatments at the spa. Annelise went for the head and shoulder massage, I opted for Refloxology. Half an hour of gentle foot massage was just what I needed in advance of another 3 hours sitting in economy. I wouldn't go as far as saying I was cheated, but after 30 minutes of what felt like nails being pressed into the sole of my foot I was ready to put my shoes back on….
Boarded full plane and were sitting right behind the right on parents with screaming kids. Opted for Bond again and XXXX me if the final descent and headset collection happened at the same time….
Hotel had kindly dispatched a driver to collect us from Denpasar. We drove through bedlam along a road which was obviously the religious statue and pot (ceramic) selling district. The hot humid air was tinged with incense, families of 4 fitted on a motorbike vegetation was lush and temples nested amongst commercial outlets.
After an hour we passed the sign to the monkey forest and shortly after arrived at our hotel: Komaneka on Monkey Forest Road, Ubud. This was definitely one of the coolest places we have ever stayed. Dumped our bags and headed out for a late lunch.
