Today I get a chance to write the blog as Nigester is in no fit state and has too much to deal with in terms of just making it through the day, so over to me….
Watching sport til 3.30am was not such a great idea.Nige woke with a humdinger of a hangover.I think I heard 'oh, my head' 7 times before I informed him that he has 3 lives left (ie could only say those words 3 more times). We headed out for breakfast at The Beach Café - such a great setting - and then headed back to our Palace to pack.
Nige suffered in silence as he packed up his bag and judging from his face, I realized that the day had come where I would need to take drastic action and…gulp….wheel my own bag.So I brokered a deal with the horse and cart man and off we set for the pier and boarded a large RIB.The journey on this boat would take 1.5 hours instead of the 4-5 hours on the public ferry so a no brainer really.
Once it set off, we realized that travelling on one of these when feeling a tad ropey was not the best idea.I soon fell asleep and woke up with only 10 mins of the journey left.Result! We were escorted to your transfer bus - was pleasantly surprised as it was a modern clean bus with lots of a/c!Boring transfer through Kuta/Legian ('dumping waves' is the expression Nige used).Seemed so busy after the Gilis.Dropped people off at various hotels and I wondered whether we had made a mistake with our accommodation. It had been recommended by Brega and
Igor but it seemed a little out of the way.Anyway, no need to be concerned as turned up and the place was fab.We had a suite and bearing in mind how tired we both felt, this was just the ticket.
We popped downstairs to the hotel restaurant for lunch - it was so hot, the thought of traipsing round to find somewhere in our state was a no-goer!When we sat down, we looked out onto the street to see a massive ceremony taking place where thousands of people were walking with statues of their gods from their temples. When I asked what the ceremony was about the waitress said 'they go from their temple to the beach…and then they go back again'.I'm sure there is a little more to it than that but hey ho - it looked and sounded great. This went on for about an hour and we felt we had our own side show just from our table.
Nige pitifully requested that we go back to the room as he needed a sleep. When we woke, we decided we'd go to Seminyak for dinner.Nige chose a restaurant called 'Living Room' which came highly recommended in the Lonely Planet. The place was magical - all twinkly lights and cool music. Not loads of people but we have got quite used to having to dine alone in restaurants or in very quiet ones and not think (a) the restaurant must be crap or (b) we are eating too early/too late or (c) everyone is at THE place to be apart from us or (d) people are avoiding us.Its simply the low season and everything is generally quiet.Anyway, back to the menu.Yum yum yum.Such different food compared to what we have seen/been eating. However, when I saw the prices, it was then that I realized I had well and truly changed as a person.Get this…I turned to Nige and said 'this is far too expensive. We don't need to eat here.Let's go and find something cheaper'.But Nige had settled on it and decided that this was going to be our one expensive meal in Asia and he really fancied some good food (Note to self: Get Nige drunk more often so that he feels weak and then get him to choose the restaurant). The food was indeed delicious and we had such a great night.Quick dash to 7 Eleven for provisions en route home and a relatively early night.
