Well it's time to leave - all over!
30 days of perfect sunshine - have hardly seen a cloud and think there was literally a couple if spots of rain .....somewhere!?!
Packed the bags for the last time and loaded them straight into the car as we were driving ourselves to the airport.
Enjoyed our last Villa Ilias breakfast on that lovely bougainvillea covered terrace while the girls printed out our boarding passes. Will definitely miss that beautiful Greek yoghurt and every morning a different type of spinach or savoury tart; not to mention the cakes - ricotta, banana and choc chip! Yes need to get back to healthier eating again ASAP!
Must admit there are a few things I won't miss. For instance the smokers in restaurants and bars; the pets - mainly dogs - in restaurants; constantly buying bottled water; and not putting toilet paper down the toilet!
After topping up the car with a little petrol we left it in the car park at the airport as instructed - with the keys under the driver's seat! Shame about the actual airport - very ordinary considering the volume of people and flights that would frequent it. Small, lacking in adequate seating and extremely poor toilets (now I'm getting picky!)
Only a 30 minute flight to Athens with Aegean airlines. Our almost 4 hours went quickly with a frappe and bougasta (finally had one Con - delicious!) before Emirates check in opened. Once again the online check in saves so much time. Did a little duty free to utilise our Euros; Raym called his Mum and I spoke to Mum and Dad with credit left on a phone card.
Once through customs etc, at 4pm we were on our way!
Goodbye Greece! Goodbye Europe!
Hope we get back sometime ....in the not too distant future!
Only four hours flying time to Dubai - (time for movies and blogging). Amazing city to fly into at night - just like a fairyland, with that incredible Burj Khalifa towering over everything!
Massive airport - took 15 minutes in a bus to get to the terminal from the aircraft. Then four hours to wait for our 2am departure - the joys of travelling!
So, going home not only with a European suntan, a truck load of photos, a few purchases and a somewhat lighter bank balance - but more importantly feeling so enriched and blessed by the experiences we've had and the people we have met.
About 14 hours flying time to Sydney - only slight hold up on departure so arrived fairly close to on time at about 10.15pm with Jared waiting to pick us up. A long almost 29 hours of travelling but survived. Home, sweet home!
