We've wound our way along the coast and into the mountains and we'll let the photographs speak for themselves! A few thoughts:
- It's been wonderful to wild camp and we've been fortunate to find some really remote spots. I think it's helped that we are pre-season, so there are not too many people on the road.
- One stop was on coastal heathland on Karmoy - high, small lakes and Christmas trees growing wild. Another up a perilous road to a frozen lake with snow covered hills and summer cabins sleeping in the snow. Another above a deep fjord where we managed to light a fire before some rain came in.
- Interestingly, we haven't seen a single other self-build camper - we must have been living in a bubble for the last 4 years, thinking that everyone was doing it! Lots of factory-built campervans and, of course, mobile homes, but so far Archie is unique!
- We're loving the bronze sculptures - in every town and village there is a collection, and they are often very evocative of the local place and beautifully made.
- The feeling that we're in a museum before it's opened that we've had in some of the tourist spots, became real in Utne where we came across the Hardanger Folk Museum - it was pre season but the lovely lady let us explore for free, turning on sound and lights and apologising for the exhibits that were still being prepared. A beautiful collection of local costume , hair styles and head dresses (apparently it's normal to wear them on high days and holidays and young girls are given a set on their confirmation - boys later); folk instruments including the double stringed Hardanger fiddle and embroidery.
- It's been surprising to see that where there are lower slopes along the fjords there are lines of fruit trees ready to blossom - sun traps beneath still snow-capped mountains.
- Nala is being a star - she's so happy in the van. Unfortunately, at this time of year in Norway she legally has to be on the lead (to protect wildlife) but she's been for icy swims and has so much stimulation just from all the new smells. She also seems very happy to be left for an hour or so, with a peanut butter filled kong in the van where she lies and snoozes on the front seat while we can shop, go into a museum etc.
- We're eating well! Archie fridge has just enough space for a couple of days of supplies and we still have basics bought from home. That said - with the price increases in the UK we're finding Norway is pretty much on a par with home!

Cassia Love the Utne folk museum anecdote - the macro in the micro as it were. What a special treat to see both the museum and the country in their pre-season phase - like peeking behind the scenes! Happy travels, keep telling us the tales. xxx
