Day 10: Naracoorte to Port Elliot
Today was my wonderful husband's birthday. Happy birthday Dazza! A big thank you to everyone for the birthday well wishes. Funny how every message was sent to my phone, shows how well you all know Darren and his reputation with his phone :-).
We woke this morning to a slightly warmer temperature, and no frost. By the time we got in the car it was 10 degrees as opposed to the 1 degree temp we had the morning before in Halls Gap.
We got up early again and beat our preparation time by 2 minutes, we're getting good at this!
Our drive to Port Elliot took about 4 hours so we had a couple of breaks in today's drive. Our lunch stop was at Strathalbyn where we ate at the best little bakery. It was the busiest bakery I have ever seen, so obviously has a good reputation.
We continued on, following the 'navman' and using the map as a backup. Neither prepared us for the fact we had a lake to cross.
We arrived at the crossing initially thinking it was a railway crossing until we got closer to see the lake. We stressed for a minute wondering if the barge could take the weight of the van until we realised there was a huge truck behind us, we figured if it could take the truck's weight we should be fine. We did have to go on a separate barge to the truck though.
It was a little unexpected adventure for us.
We arrived at Port Elliot Holiday Park and felt at home immediately. I think this is arguably the best park we have visited this trip. Everything is set up nicely with a lot of fore thought put into the planning. Darren's had me taking photos left, right and centre to show his sisters for ideas to implement in Kiama.
After we set up we went for a walk on the headland, we had been told on check in that there have been whales just off the coast. After about 20 minutes of exploring Dazza noticed a couple of southern right whales frolicking a little off shore. Unfortunately I only had the smaller lense on the camera so we didn't get any decent photos. We will try again tomorrow and put the bigger lense on this time :-).
Tomorrow we are doing touristy things in the area before heading to Kangaroo Island on Wednesday.
P.s. Prayers are working, no rain (none that inhibits our plans any way)
