Day: 14 & 15
Port Elliot to Adelaide
Wow, has it been 2 weeks already since we left home. The time has gone so fast but when I think about all the things we've done and places we have been I'm surprised it's only been 2 weeks.
We left Port Elliot early friday morning and headed for Adelaide. The trip was rather uneventful and only took about an hour or so.
Now, we have a little confession to make! We stayed with the competition whilst in Adelaide. I'm blaming the navman, I put the address in and it took us straight to a top tourist park. We decided it was a good opportunity to compare.
The managers, Nicki and Scott, were lovely. We fessed up about who we were but Nicki had already suspecting anyway as they used to work at Big4 in Yamba. They have only been at the park for 4 weeks and have great plans on improving it.
The park was clean and tidy but very basic. Big4 definitely wins out on features.
When we arrived we were greeted with gorgeous weather but by the afternoon a change came in. We took advantage of the good weather and caught up on cleaning and washing. Darren washed Kangaroo Island off the car, I cleaned the van and caught up on washing whilst the kids did a colour-in for a competition we had been given by Nicki on arrival. After they finished that they ran around the park.
Once all cleaning was done, and before it rained we went for a walk along the beach front until we reached a kids playground and exercise park. The weather was moving in by this stage so after a little play we walked back to the park.
For dinner that night we went to the surf club, next door, as they do a bistro on Thursday and Friday nights. The food, though basic, was really nice.
Saturday, we woke to cold, wet and windy conditions, so after an easy morning we went into the city for a bit of retail therapy. We bought 'rummikub' which is the game Alan and Denise introduced us to during our stay in Temora, and we stocked up on our books (both reading and activity). Naturally we could not go past 'Haigh's' chocolate store without making a purchase. Very yummy with a price to match.
After we had dragged the kids through as much Adelaide history as they could manage we drove back to Marion and went to the movies. We saw Ice Age 4. It wasn't as bad as we were expecting, and it kept the kids entertained for a couple of hours. Darren said he only slept for about 15 minutes during the movie too!
Tomorrow we make our way to Port Augusta then I have no idea what we're doing as Darren changed the itinerary!
Oh, by the way, the kids won the colouring-in competition. Each received a cap with some lollies and a bag of chips for their troubles.
