Day 64: Mission Beach to Townsville
It was difficult to leave such a beautiful location as Mission Beach. We begrudgingly packed up and departed but not before we caught up with the owners Bob and Janine and once again thanked them for letting us stay.
We arrived at Big4 Walkabout Palms Townsville where we were greeted by the friendly owner Mark who keeps himself very busy operating not only the caravan park but the petrol station also.
We set up then went for a drive to The Strand. First stop was the water playground. A great deal of comparisons were made, with Cairns Coconut's waterpark coming out the victor. It was quite windy on the water front making it chilly so the kids didn't play for long.
After the kids changed out of their swimmers we took a little walk along the strand. After exhausting all playgrounds and ice-cream consumed we took a drive up Castle Hill to the lookout.
The climb up the hill is really steep and is a very popular exercise route. I watched the multitude of walkers and joggers and felt envious, I'm starting to miss my exercise.
Next we explored Palmer Ave and all the restaurants it has to offer before deciding to eat dinner at a restaurant called Ribs and Rumps. Luckily we were early so they could squeeze us in before a booking arrived. Dinner was delicious and they also sold merchandise. Darren expressed interest in the steak knives so we bought him a set for fathers day. I made out to the kids that he didn't know we bought them so they eagerly hid them ready for tomorrow. They know full well that Daddy knows we bought them but lacking another present they are enjoying the facade of a surprise.
Tomorrow we are travelling to Airlie Beach. Looking forward to that!
