Nadeane & Dean's Trip
Hello everyone,
Here we are in Honduras for the weekend. Honduras is a country just south of Guatemala, on the Carribean coast. The weather is beautiful and its quite tropical. We were up at 3.30am yesterday for the 4am shuttle bus and arrived in Honduras at about 11am. We checked in to a hotel and took a taxi (which is really just a really fast golf cart!) to the Copan Ruins. The ruins were amazing. They are about 1,300 years old and are from the ancient Maya people. There were huge pyramids and a giant heiroglyphic staircase which apparently is the most important of the mayan ruins as it tells the story of the ancient mayans. The ruins themselves were really big and spread out as well. They were only discovered in 1836, as they were covered in dense jungle prior to that. It was really cool to walk around and climb up the pyramids. Last night we had a nice meal at the local Churrascaria (steakhouse) and watched a movie on tv... Along Came Polly. yes and it was in english. We were very excitied. We havent seen english tv for sooooo long. Honduras is pretty cool. All the local men look like something out of a really bad 70s western. They wear cowboy hats and cowboy boots, like they're from the wild west. Weird!! This morning we are just hanging around the town, as we have to head back to Antigua at 1pm, ready for school tomorrow! Only 3 more days of school and then off to our sailing trip. Cant wait.
Hope everyone is well. We will post our photos of our tour of the ruins tomorrow as I forgot to bring the spare battery to upload the photos... Ooops!!
We Miss you all.
