Nadeane & Dean's Trip
Hi everyone,
Its been a while since our last postcard so I guess Ill fill you on on what weve been up to. We stayed another week in Antigua after Honduras, finishing off our spanish lessons with our teacher, Erick. Dean made sure he learnt all the important words before we left, like fart (pedo) and booger (jutes). Our teacher thought it was hilarious....
From Antigua, we caught the bus to Rio Dulce, where we stayed in a neat jungle lodge and slept for 16 hours before our sailing trip started.
Our sailing trip was fantastic. The first day was a little rough, but the beautiful reefs and islands we saw were so nice. Dean even swam with some sharks on the reef. Very cool. The trip was for a week, but it went so fast, we were on a bus again before we knew it. We headed up to Tikal, the famous Maya site where we stayed and then left for Belize the next day. We arrived in Belize city and caught the boat to Caye Caulker, which was really good. It was so wierd as they actually speak english there. We kept speaking to our waiters in spanish as its been so long since we have been able to order food in english!!
We went on a really amazing snorkelling tour, we got to pat sharks and sting rays and see the amazing coral reefs.
From there we caough tthe bus to Tulum, another maya site, and stayed in a really rustic beach cabana, and woke up early this morning to watch the sunrise over the Carribbean sea. Very cool.
Then we caought a bus to Playa del Carmen, where we are now. It reminds us both of Surfers Paradise... its crawling with American touists and everything costs twice as much as everywhere else, so I think well get out of here asap and head to the west coast of the yucatan peninsula where there should be less tourists (i hope!)
Off to Canada on April 7, so looking forwad to that.
