Today we left Rome and headed for Naples in our comfortable business class train seats. Once we arrived, we checked into the Airbnb. It was a bit of a fiasco but we got there and got in. We stopped for lunch on a large square. It had a 1700s palace that now has a number of restraunts operating out of the ground floor. If cleanliness was high it would have been amazing. It was not the amount of gravfitti garbage and dirt in the square made for a very odd scene...

Today we got up and took our tours of the coliseum. We were on separate tours as there was only one ticket left at 905 and the 920 tours. The tour was very good we got to go in the basement storage areas, the floor, and the top level and everywhere in between. It was great. From there we went to the forum. Which was pretty good but a lot of it was closed for restoration. From there we went to the Capitoline museum. The ancient Roman sculptures were very goo...

So today went on the scavi tour in the morning. Basically we went through the catacombs under the Vatican. We saw ancient Roman and Christian burials culminating in the chapel of St. Peter then into the actual crypt where we saw St. Peter’s jaw bone where it was buried originally and still resides. It was very cool. Especially being in the tiny 16 person chapel under St. Peter’s basilica and seeing St. Peter himself. After that we went to the St. John Later...

Today was a very busy and long day. We were at the borghese gallery first thing waiting before it opened. It was amazing. I really like Persephone and Pluto. It was amazing. The second Bernini statue I really liked was Daphne. From there we went to the Spanish Steps. They were great. But they really do have police officers telling people not to sit down. We made it to Rome. We arrived at lunch time and did a tour of St. Peter’s basilica with a seminarian from Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was a great tour that focused more on the historic-religious aspects of the cathedral. It was unlike any tour of the Vatican I have had before. Loved it.
