Hey everyone
So we woke up after not much sleep and went down for our breakfast. Christina had tea (which alex has taken from the hotel), but we both had powdered milk. The heat was already unbearable.
Our first encounter was with a friendly thai man... Who informed us that it was a buddhist holiday and got us a tuk tuk guide around the city, for 10 baht (20p) each. He was insistent on taking us to places we weren't that keen on going to (tailor shop) but we enjoyed the ride.
At the Golden Mount (a huge temple at the top of a hill) we were abandoned by the guide, who said he would wait for us. We didn't even pay him the 40p! We learnt later that this was actually all a scam, and a common one at that... But it didn't work on us! We were supposed to have bought tailor-made shirts and fake jewellery.
We then went to Wat Pho and saw the reclining buddha. A huge golden buddha the size football pitch!it was impressive. Next we had a little walk to the strangest park ever. Everyone there was exercising; aerobics, running and football. Then the whole of bangkok stood still while the national anthem played from speakers everywhere.
We went back to the hostel to wipe away the layer of grime and exhaust fumes from our faces as our white tops had turned grey. We ventured out to the famous Khao San road, which was simply insane. There were loads food and market stalls, fire eaters, prostitutes, fake ID makers, and beer everywhere. It was so busy and we constantly heard "you buy? You buy?" as alex practised his haggling skills (they've come in very handy). For dinner we had noodles and a litre of beer, then we went back to the hostel and fell asleep (to the noise of stray cats and dogs and the 'hum' of the air conditioning).
