Hey everyone
Today we explored Brisbane!
We began the day with a long walk to the Culture Centre, home of the main library, art gallery, museum and more. We went to the Brisbane Art Gallery first, but since most of it was closed (due to a huge new exhibition arriving soon) it didn't take very long to look around and it wasn't very inspiring. Next stop was the Queensland Museum, which was much bigger and better. We learnt about the Australian outback, compared ourselves in size to the animals of Australia, and the section on Australians awarded the Victoria Cross was great (aside from the annoying school children).
After a quick lunch break (outside on a shaded spot of grass, just how we like it), we went back into the museum to see the exhibition on Charles Darwin. It turned out to be little more than a glorified biography, but at least we now know more about his accomplishments.
We then walked along the river to the Southbank Parklands, a popular area due to its artificial beach. After a dip in the...sea (pool?) We walked to the botanic gardens. They had a nice mangrove boardwalk that went out into the river, giving us a beautiful view of the river and the steep cliff faces on the other side of the river. After finding a nice patch of grass and having a lie down, Christina fell asleep. She awoke as the sun was beginning to set and we thought best to start making our way home, stopping off at a souvenir shop (we're not telling what we bought).
After dinner, while Christina was doing the washing up she heard Alex shouting from the veranda. She went in and saw Alex pointing at a possum. We didn't know what he was at first - he looked like a giant rat, and it seemed like he was looking for food, before he jumped off into the garden. Christina was very happy she has now seen all the Australian fauna right here in Brisbane. Xxx
