Hey everyone
Today we went to Franz Josef!
We left the Poo pub as it was now affectionally known and everyone had sore heads. We had a short drive to Pukekura and the bushman centre where Alex had pancakes for his breakfast and Christina looked at the reindeers. We had a chat to our driver about the gossip from the night before and then we left for Franz Josef. The road were very windy and it was a long drive.
We arrived late afternoon and had our much needed lunch. Franz Josef is a very small town consisting of tour companies and hostels and one pub and one shop. It mainly exists for tourists who want to see the glacier region and Franz Josef glacier, one of only three glaciers surrounded by rainforests.
We decided to spent the afternoon planning the rest of the trip, sorting out dates and ringing the office to book buses for the next part of the journey. It started to rain, unsurprising as we were in the rainforest, but little did we know this would be start of a rainstorm that would not leave us for nearly a week. That evening there was a huge storm, the lightning lit up the whole room and the thunder often went on for at over 30 seconds nonstop. Christina was a little scared of the loud storm but we were both worried about our glacier hike in the morning, as if weather cancelled the trip we wouldn't have another chance to do it. We went to bed hoping the rain would ease by the morning. Xxx
