Our next destination is Mystery Bay (named because on 10 October 1880, five men disappeared in one of Australia's baffling sea mysteries) where we spend a few days by the beach at one of the few natural camping spots left in NSW. We set up camp nestled amongst the bush, taking walks along the soft sandy beach enjoying the stunning views of this picturesque hamlet with its high cliffs, rocky outcrops and clear water.
We swim amongst the surf within natural pools created by rock formations resembling honeycomb, spotting a large stingray as it glides beside us before making our way back.
We experience another thunderstorm and as we sit watching forks of lightning illuminate the sky with loud claps of thunder overhead we wonder if the loud crashing sound we hear is a neighbouring tree being struck.
The next morning we hear the sound of chainsaws and are thankful that the tree being removed didn't land on us!
