Neal, Neal, Lemon Peel.
That's a butterfly on his shoulder.
Our first stop is Shanghai. We were going to go KL to London but during our planning session we all realised that none of us had been to Shanghai.
Extra bonus Neal lives there with his wife Julia and daughter Isabel.
YUSSSSSSSSSS!
He's been super awesome sorting out what we might like to do in Shanghai. We are so excited about seeing him and his family after so many years on different hemispheres!
Neal knows us from Massey University days. He did gig and Radio Massey stuff. He knows who Gordon Dinosaur was too.
I think he does sound and lighting stuff in Shanghai now?
In 1992, he became the manager/roadie for our girl band - the Juicy Mangos. Yeah - we were the prototype before the Spice Girls (1994). Sally, Trish, Kelly and me. Juice, juice.
People believed the hype, it was all a bit of a piss take/comedy. We made up dumb lyrics to the Carpenters and Barry Manilow etc. It was funny. Trish could sing though. We got gigs. The Massey University Bizarre Ball was our pinnacle and our down fall.
Neal was there for us when the Bizarre Ball gig got dangerous. About 1000 drunk Massey University students were at the gig. The Massey Uni Rams (The top rugger team) were all dressed up like Hare Krishnas (ie wearing their bed sheets with orange paint on them) and they started hiffing stuff at us because we sucked. And it didn't help that we were put on late when everyone was way too drunk for the subtleties of our comedic show.
Then they tried to get up on stage with us. Nobody tackles a Juicy Mango without dire repercussions. Neal, the stage crew and security dealt to the Rams. They all got chucked out. Hah!
Then once we were escorted off the stage to safety - Neal gave us each a bottle of gin and chocolate.
What a freaken hero.
Thanks Neal.
