Broken Hill.
Watch out for bees under the toilet seat - what about the million flies that are trying to take to our lunch and party in all our facial orofices!!!! This was a short lived lunch stop on our drive from Mildura to Broken Hill. The scenery changed from the food hub of Mildura to the arid, salt bush and sparse dry land of BH. Parking the bus up in a CVP for the first time since before Christamas it was a shock to pay $60 per night (on the high end of what we have paid in the past) and also feeling like freaks with others looking, talking and taking photographs of our bus we had forgotten what interest it brings.
Lotte had high temps not coming down with Panadol or neurofen so a quiet night for us. Not wanting to waste our opportunity to see some things in BH the next day we headed out to Silverton a ghost town that as it's name suggests was established as a silver mine in the 1880's. Once bigger than BH and was able to support 20 pubs it now is a tourist town with the few old characteristic buildings. An iconic place to film some famous movies, one being Mad Max. We visited the 2 resident artists, Mad Max museum, old school, cafe where we bought a slice of Quondong Pie. (a native friut which has red flesh covering a large wrinkly seed and tart in taste).
Topping Lotte up with medication we headed up the hill to the rock sculptures all 12 designed by people around the world. Lastly a must heading to the sydictae 7's heads. Philip Charley (Pop -Stew Agnew's mother was Vera Chraley daughter of Philip Charley). Was a station hand who was an employee at the time and became a share holder in the sydictae 7 who founded BHP. Wow we are related to someone famous.
Thursday was move onto Melrose but something out there was putting the breaks on with Lotte vomiting and a window upstairs blown out of the the bus the start was slower than we wished. After eating friut all moring as we were crossing the boarder from Vic to SA and unable to take it with us we made good time arriving at Melrose show grounds around 3.30pm.
